Self-build homes
Community Infrastructure Levy
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a planning charge. The CIL was introduced by the Planning Act 2008 and acts as a tool for local authorities in England and Wales to use to help them to deliver infrastructure to support the development of their region. Self-builders can claim for exemption from the CIL.

How to claim
The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) have produced guidance that details the procedure for claiming an exemption for a self-build home. Read the CIL exemption for self-build homes guidance2.
Claims for a self-build exemption (relating to a whole house) should be submitted on Form 7: Self Build Exemption Claim Form Part 13 and followed by further supporting information, when the development is finished, on Form 7: Self Build Exemption Claim Form Part 24.
