Local authorities
As the national hub for planning and building control, the Planning Portal offers a unified platform for submitting both types of applications through a single portal.
As the leading channel for these applications nationwide, it’s crucial that your council is set up to receive both planning and building control applications. If your council isn’t yet registered with us for Building Control, you could be missing out on important applications. Discover the benefits of our integrated Building Control Portal.1
If your local authority has not yet enabled Building Control applications through the Planning Portal, learn about signing up and contact us today2.
Local authority staff can manage their planning and/or building control applications using the dedicated local authority admin area of Planning Portal. Generally, we expect that separate accounts will be used for planning applications and building control applications as these are usually managed by distinct teams.
You can use the panel below to sign in into our ‘LPA Admin’ platform.

We have developed excellent partnerships with local authorities to change the culture of planning and provide accessible, open and transparent online planning services to citizens and professionals.
Around 90 per cent of applications are now submitted online. With financial and resource constraints on both central and local government, we need to tackle further obstacles to realise a truly online planning service.
This section offers practical information and resources to support local authorities working with us.
