Pre-site approval
Introduction
Before you make a building control application or decide which route to take, it is always important to understand when building control approval is needed.
If you choose to use a local authority building control service, there are three types of application you can make:
- An application for building control approval with full plans
- A building notice
- An application for a regularisation certificate
There is a charge payable for these applications, which may vary between local authorities, but is regulated by The Building (Local Authority Charges) Regulations 20101 (as amended).
You should contact your local authority for details of their charges. Our online application service also allows you to provide details of your building control application so that a fee can be agreed with the local authority and paid when the application is submitted.
