Smart Export Guarantee

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) allows small scale energy producers to be paid for the low-carbon electricity they provide to the National Grid. This applies to most green energy production types providing they have a capacity of 5MW or less, including:

  • Solar PV
  • Wind
  • Micro-CHP (unlike the others this has a capacity limit of 50kW)
  • Hydro
  • Anaerobic digestion.

If you are eligible you can apply through an energy supplier who is a SEG licensee. They will provide you with a contract stating the tariff rate and contract length. The SEG licensee does not have to be the same as your current energy supplier. Contract rates and lengths will vary based on the supplier you choose.
