Other permissions you may require
Coal Authority permissions
Consent is required before carrying out any site works to physically investigate, secure and stabilise past coal mine workings, including mine shafts and other entries to coal mines, owned by the Coal Authority.
You must apply before the investigation and any treatment works take place. This can be before or following submission of a planning application and associated coal mining risk assessment. It can also be before discharging a planning condition relating to site stability or contamination.
You can apply for a permission online or by using the paper form provided by the Coal Authority.1
Approval typically takes up to 20 days for a normal application and 10 days for an expedited application. Expedited applications are typically charged at twice the price.
